Like many working in the events and hospitality industry, 2020 was a tough year for Justine Ordway. She had worked in restaurants for over 15 years but when the world ground to a halt in early 2020, she lost her job, lost childcare for her infant, and ultimately lost her financial security.
Whilst brainstorming ideas to make some extra cash, Justine attended a wedding in Arizona. In rolled a horse trailer bar and it was an instant aha! moment. “This was something I could do; this is something I would LOVE to do!” Justine told Roll To. “On the flight back I started researching laws, mobile bar licenses, equipment and everything else I would need to get this business running. I searched to see if I could find anyone already doing this in my area. Two months later, I had purchased a trailer of my own!”
So, The Tipsy Wagon was born.
Justine wrapped the trailer exterior in an aged galvanized metal, wood was either replaced or re-stained, new counter tops and decals were added, and the inside ceiling painted.
Given the trailer was 60 years old, the conversion was no small feat, but Justine did a wonderful job. Crucially, the trailer was upgraded without losing any of its rustic charm.
As you can see from the photos below, The Tipsy Wagon looks just as great serving at wedding receptions as it does back on the ranch for an engagement photoshoot.
Justine has big plans for the future of The Tipsy Wagon.
“This year I’m really looking forward to focusing on growing the business. In 2021, I did a handful of events. I was pregnant, back to work at my restaurant job, and caring for our son. The Tipsy Wagon was more of a side gig. This year I am fully invested in the wagon. I have been renovating the interior to give it more of a bright clean look while staying true to the vintage style of the trailer. I’m also investing in a tap system so that I’ll be able to hook up kegs which I didn’t have last year when I started.”
We can’t wait to see how The Tipsy Wagon looks after these changes and will be sure to post updates.
Dates in summer 2022 and 2023 are filling up fast for The Tipsy Wagon but there are still some weekends available. If you’d like to add a touch of country charm to your event, then reach out quickly!
Based in the Mission Hills of Lompoc, CA, The Tipsy Wagon serves all over the central coast and surrounding areas. Justine is available for weddings, birthdays, bridal showers, charity fundraisers, photoshoots and corporate events.
